IDL Engineering Services Ltd was recently approached by Horizon Offshore for a unique installation project. The task at hand was to install an MKN combi oven procured by Horizon Offshore into the compact galley of their vessel, the Aurora Horizon.
The galley already had a central extract canopy with a marine 4 hob range oven and a tilting Bratt pan, leaving no space for the new combi oven. The crew proposed the idea of installing the oven on an existing stainless steel workbench, but the oven was deeper than the bench itself.
Determined to find a solution, IDL Engineering Services Ltd designed a customised tabletop stand. We securely bolted it to the bench after cutting a 73mm hole in the worktop to accommodate water and drain services for the oven.
To ensure efficient drainage, a stainless-steel tundish with a vented P-trap was mounted below the bench. This allowed the oven to drain effectively.
To further secure the oven, M6 stainless studs were stud-welded to the oven side panels and M6 Rivet nuts were used to attach them to the bulkhead.
Once the installation was complete, IDL Engineering Services Ltd commissioned the oven and provided training to the chef and crew, ensuring they were equipped to make the most of their new cooking equipment.
