The Corner Hub
We were excited to work with Conscious Youth CIC to help bring together their vision for The Corner Hub, a youth lounge in Huddersfield.
We began by visiting the site to carry out a mid-project survey to transform their old out of action commercial kitchen into a new updated commercial kitchen. We met with the joiner, plumber and electrician to hand over the service drawing and discuss everything to ensure they were happy with the scope of works before we began.
IDL has designed the kitchen to best use their small space to its full potential. The original space included male and female toilets. These were removed and the wall between the toilets was demolished to make way for the new equipment and storage solutions.
The next step was for our engineers to begin fitting new PVC wall cladding and Vinyl safety flooring. The new walls and floor covering installation was a success and our customer was happy with the transformation.
IDL then returned to site to take final measurements for the stainless-steel fabrications. As we were working with a compact space with some unusual dimensions we wanted to ensure we had exact measurements ready for the fabrications to be built. This ensures a smooth installation when our engineers return to site.
During the final visit we cladded the windowsills in stainless steel to provide more surface space and mounted the microwave on a bespoke stand so as to take advantage of all available space.
As the building sits in a tricky position, traditional means of ventilation through a ducted system would add significant cost. Therefore, we installed Lincat fume extraction units to provide a comfortable working area for the kitchen staff.
We also fitted a Lincat hob, Parry oven, Lincat griddle and Lincat tabletop fryer, to allow the kitchen the opportunity to serve a wide range of food.
We worked closely with our fabrication partner, ML Stainless, to provide stainless steel fabrications. This included; a food preparation sink and dishwasher tabling, both with inset hand wash sinks and Mechline pre-rinse spray.
Conscious Youth believe it is important to give young people opportunities to grow and develop, so this kitchen will be run by young people, for young people. They will be running a Dragon’s Den style competition to decide which young chef will be running the kitchen. It will become their business, providing valuable skills and experience.
We wish The Corner Hub the best of luck for the future.
