Riverside College Receive a Second Kitchen Upgrade
IDL were delighted to be invited back to work with Riverside College in Widnes recently to install some new catering equipment for a second teaching kitchen.
We have previously worked with the college designing, supplying and installing a teaching kitchen, in 2019. During that project we were the main contractor. Therefore, we were responsible for disconnecting and removing the existing catering equipment, builders’ works, flooring, ceilings, plumbing and electrical works. On this occasion, the customer required new equipment and stainless steel fabrications. The kitchen we were invited to work in has an island-style cooking area complete with two bespoke cook suites. The suites were over 15 years old. Due to this age and the kind of heavy use it received, the equipment frequently broke down. Alongside this, parts were no longer being manufactured and therefore our customer wanted to replace them with modern modular appliances.
To begin, our engineer attended the site and stripped out the existing suites, he then altered the services to accommodate the new appliances.
The arrangement of the kitchen included island cooking and both sides were identical. This is a feature you can also see in the teaching kitchen we previously worked on for Riverside College.
To fulfil the customer’s needs, we supplied and installed two Dominator Plus Falcon hot plates and two Dominator Plus Falcon Gas ranges. These were chosen as the Dominator Plus is Falcon’s most versatile range that can handle heavy use, with removable pan supports which ensure quick clean-up and hassle-free maintenance.
To complement the new and existing equipment, we also had two work benches manufactured. The first includes a bain marie top. We made sure that the existing Unox bakery ovens would slot into the workbench voids alongside the new equipment.
Finally, our engineer tested the equipment and commissioned it ready for Riverside College to use their new catering equipment.
